SHOP IN SPITE OF HURRICANE SANDY

Posted on November 3, 2012

Hurricane Sandy has impacted the lives of New Yorkers, New Jerseyites, those from Connecticut and others from all over the Northeast. I would also like to take this time to acknowledge those who have been impacted by this Hurricane in Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba as well. After watching the telethon last night which featured Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Steven Tyler, etc. I thought that there had to be a way to donate money online as well. I started searching some of my favorite online stores and here’s a list of a few stores who are donating money to the Red Cross in an attempt to aid in disaster relief… If you’re going to spend money, you might as well spend it on…

BLACKFACE

Posted on November 1, 2009

I can’t decide if I should find the photo above offensive or not. I do not find the nudity offensive, I do not find the hair pulling offensive either. However, what some have found offensive is the fact that the model to the left is painted in “blackface”. Instead of using a dark skinned model, magazines such as V Magazine and French Vogue opted to use a technique called “blackface” instead. This has caused much controversy lately but it turns out that blackface used to be practiced in theaters many years ago. According to npr.org, during the 19th century, blackface entertainment was common. Caucasian actors and actresses would paint themselves dark in order to appear African American. The trend began in 1830, when actors…

Wonderland Magazine is by far the most intriguing magazine I have read in a long, long time. Its editorials are unique and breathtaking. The writing is informative yet not overwhelming and what is perhaps the most impressive about Wonderland Magazine is the fact that the magazine was created only four years ago. Somehow the magazine has been able to feature big time celebrities such as Megan Fox, Julianne Moore and Chace Crawford. Below are some of my favorite pictures from various different issues of Wonderland Magazine. Take a look:Source: wonderlandmagazine.com

Topshop Fall 2009 Still Lookbook

Posted on August 3, 2009

I don’t wear make-up in the summer really. I’ve found that by the time I get dressed everything has melted anyway so I just don’t bother. However, the Fall allows for more dramatic looks and I love that! Here are some inspirations for the upcoming season: Source: Topshop, createthe solutions, elle.com, style.com, revlon.com, fashionista.com

“I don’t know who invented high heels but women owe him a lot”

Posted on July 25, 2009

I don’t know why Marilyn Monroe stated the quote above because who knows if the person who invented the shoe was indeed a male? It could easily have been a woman. Just take a look at the footwear from Ms. Donna Karan below – she is a  brilliant designer. Take a look: Citizens of Humanity I am also intriqued with Citizens of Humanity’s lookbook. The relaxed, must-have-been-inspired-by Erin Wasson feel is great. Take a look: On a different note… is at it again! Take a look: Snake bracelet, $5.00 Family tee, $24.00 These items featured above are available at Marc by Marc Jabobs stores. Also… Most of  the fall footwear from Alloy.com is incredible. I really like Alloy because they always have my size…

Leather + Blue Jeans

Posted on July 23, 2009

I found absolute inspiration from Alexander Wang and from the Fall 2009 pieces from William Rast with this look that I plan on wearing in the Fall along with a red lip, studded boots and statement bracelets. It’s not the real deal but it’ll have to do. Take a look:   It is actually a leather jacket worn under a denim vest and I therefore can wear both pieces seperately which is great! + = Inspiration: Wang William Rast Source: Zimbio.com

Sketched Out

Posted on July 16, 2009

One of the biggest compliments a blogger can receive is when California-based artist, Danny Roberts (pictured above) takes the time to sketch and draw a picture of you (take a look at some of the blogger portraits here). Well, if you can’t be drawn by him, you can now wear something in which he has drawn. At the young age of 23, Mr. Roberts has collaborated with Gwen Stefani for the Harajucku Lovers collection. I have never cared for any Harajuku Lovers designs and then I saw the two bags featured below. I really like these bags! The plaid prints are great and I really like how the illustrations really look like they’re drawn directly on the bags. The designs are just simple and…

“She can’t walk and chew gum at the same time”

Posted on June 30, 2009

The editorial below featuring Gisele Bundchen is getting kind of old but I forgot to post it on here when I first saw it. Honestly, if anybody can walk in those ankle breakers (I don’t know if its at all possible, do you? There looks to be about a foot worth of heel!) while chewing gum it’s Ms. Bundchen herself. Eat your heart out. Marc Jacobs I write about Marc Jacobs a lot and it’s getting to the point where it’s ridiculous but I can’t help it. Here are my favorite new items from his special items selection, available at all Marc Jacobs stores and more than likely on Ebay in a few weeks. Take a look: Bowler bag, $49.99 Cheetah coin purse, $14.00…

Dana-Maxx Designs

Posted on June 29, 2009

Designer of The Week: Dana-Maxx Pomerantz I took one look Dana-Maxx‘s Fall designs and immediately decided that I had to feature them on YOU ARE WHO YOU WEAR. The designs are just striking, fierce and flirty and if you are anything like me you are already looking for inspiration for your Fall 2009 wardrobe. I recommend that you take a look at Ms. Maxx’s designs for just that. I was immediately impressed with Ms. Maxx’s use of bold colors and feminine features (such as the ruffled bottom skirts) because that makes the designs feel and look edgy while also maintaining a feminine touch to them. I couldn’t help but find Dana-Maxx’s designs to be incredibly chic with a little mix of rock and roll…

The First Lady of The Dance Floor

Posted on June 28, 2009

Lady Gaga is absolutely obnoxious. That’s why I like her and to think that she used to be a songwriter ie. someone who worked behind the scenes. Today, Lady G is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, she gets to wear leotards in public and is an artist that no one would recognize if she were to walk down the street in regular clothing and no make-up. She’s smart and by far one of my favorite artists. Below are photos of The First Lady of The Dance Floor from a feature in Maxim Magazine. Take a look: Get the look for less: I highly doubt anyone but Lady Gaga would wear a leotard and fishnets in public. But who knows? Some…

Liquid Metals

Posted on June 27, 2009

There’s something really daring about the looks below. British newcomer Roksanda Ilincic has created an almost gothic feel to the design with the dark lips and jetblack hair Whereas Michael Kors offers a more casual feel to the metallic color with simple make-up and beautiful pieces of jewelery The Marc Jacobs dress below was worn by Kate Moss and this is one of the first designs from Marc Jacobs that I am not incredibly fond of. There’s something greek goddess meets halloween about it and the design completely reminds me of a dress created by Patricia Field last year. However, the color of Marc Jacobs’s dress is excellent – It would flatter any skin color too! Farrah Fawcett I sat and watched Farrah Fawcett’s…

Bec & Bridge

Posted on June 23, 2009

Designers of The Week: Above is a photo of Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston who are the two designers behind the Australian label Bec & Bridge. Their label launched in 2003 and it has since been worn by celebrities such as Supermodel Miranda Kerr among others. Their designs are truly impressive especially for a brand that is relatively young. Below are my favorite Winter pieces from the brand.  I absolutely adore the chains, feathers, metallics, patent leather and gold details not to mention the simplicity illustrated in most of the designs. These looks seem like they would look good on anybody and the designs don’t seem like they would dominate the person wearing them. It doesn’t seem as though the designs would enter a room…

Dolce & Gabbana Does Marilyn

Posted on June 17, 2009

Thanks to Molly Sims, these Dolce & Gabbana designs caught my eye and interest.  Take a look: I am in awe. I absolutely adore the dresses but also the proportioned butterfly-shaped shoulders. I also feel that the hot pink colors mixed with the black and white colors are very powerful. You can view the rest of the Dolce & Gabbana Winter 2010 show here. What do you think? Jimmy Choo coming to H&M H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand for the first time. They’re teaming up with Jimmy Choo for holiday retailing and according to The Guardian , the collection will include footwear, accessories and clothing.  I don’t even want to know how fast that collection is going to sell out but it’s fantastic news,…

Honeymoon Hotel

Posted on June 16, 2009

This morning, I woke up. I rolled over and opened my eyes. In front of my face lay a brown, creepy, large spider. I was so scared that I instantly woke up and (sorry, folks) killed it with the newest issue of Time Magazine. I showered, ate breakfast (which consisted of a cup of coffee, strawberries and a bowl of yogurt) and I could still not shake the image of that spider out of my head! I sat in front of my computer monitor thinking it would serve me some relief … That’s when I found the photos above of Bruce Willis & his wife from the July 2009 issue of W Magazine. I’m now just as freaked out as I was when I woke…
