I do not really care for celebrity designers. However, that does not mean that I will not acknowledge when a collection in which is designed by a celebrity offers something interesting. In this case, Nicole Richie is the latest celebrity designer whom has impressed me. She has decided to add footwear to her House of Harlow 1960 accesories line. My-Wardrobe.com will sell the footwear exclusively come January 2010. In the meantime, Ms. Richie is working at her ready-to-wear collection Winter Kate. The shoes have a tribal feeling to them and are just really versatile. One could easily pair them with jeans or a flowing maxi dress. Take a look:

Alexander McQueen recently sued Steve Madden for copying his design. Who knows, maybe Acne will sue Jeffrey  Campbell the same thing? I mean, considering the fact that we’re in a recession, I don’t really mind Mr. Campbell’s attempt at designing a wedge in the style of Acne’s. I do not know how much Mr. Campbell’s will retail for but I am almost certain that they will not cost $400 and change like Acne’s version does. Take a look:

The most unique component to Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 RTW Collection were the shoes in which models wore on his runway. Take a look at my favorite pairs:

Bored by Balmain

Balmain’s Spring 2010 RTW collection fails to impress me when compared to its Spring 2009 RTW collection.

What do you think?

The holiday items below will be available from Topshop come next month! I absolutely love the velvet knickers but I can imagine that they must be truly uncomfortable to wear. I also really like the silver leaf clutch.

GOTHIC CRAZE

I don’t know about you but I am so tempted to wear black lipstick this winter. It’s a very daring, in-your-face look that Yves Saint Laurent especially paid attention to in 2008. MAC cosmetics are on the black lipstick bandwagon too this season offering a full collection in which is titled “style black”. In this post there is a guide on how to create the gothic look featuring MAC cosmetics. Take a look:

Picture 37 This is a very dramatic look. Usually one either create eye-makeup that is dramatic or one chooses to focus on the lips making them dramatic. Adding drama to both eyes and lips is rare and caution should be taken when creating this look since it includes both a cat-eye and very dark lips. Pale or light tanned skin works best when creating this look. Apply foundation to even out skin tone, line eyes very precisely too. For more information on how to create this look and to purchase the products in which are necessary  from MAC Cosmetics click here.

Picture 36 This look is the most dramatic of them all and to be honest with you, I think one could only pull this off on the runway. However, for the brave ladies out there this look requires a lot of mascara, black lipstick and black eye shadow. One does not have to have pale or lightly tanned skin to pull this look off either. I actually believe that it would look better on darker skin. Begin by applying black eyeliner beyond the eyelid as well as on the bottom of the rim of your eye. Apply plenty of mascara and a light coral blush. For more information on how to create this look and to purchase the products in which are necessary  from MAC Cosmetics click here.

Picture 38This look in my opinion is the most subtle of them all. The deep red lipstick is very simple to pull off. But I would recommend that one keeps the eye make-up much simpler since that will make the deep red lipstick pop more. For more information on how to create this look and to purchase the products in which are necessary  from MAC Cosmetics click here.

Picture 39 This is actually my favorite look of them all. It’s incredibly fierce and actually has a nude/peach lip which allows for the eyeliner to break through and become incredibly noticeable. I believe this look would be suitable for any skin color too. For more information on how to create this look and to purchase the products in which are necessary  from MAC Cosmetics click here.

On a different note…

Picture 5

The photo below made my entire day. Women look at editorials and usually state, “I want her lips.”, “I want hair like that!”, etc. in today’s world it is so rare for women to look at a photo and say, “Wow. She looks like me.” and leave it at that. Millions of women around the globe are looking at the picture below and telling themselves “I look like that.” – I did not realize how good it feels to see women who actually look like you and I am so happy about this increase in demand for more curvy models. I am glad women have had enough of no diversity and no variety in models. I believe there should be room for thin models and more curvy models too. What do you think? Pick up the November issue of Glamour magazine to see this photo and more.

I agree with Crystal Renn to some extent, in reference to the quote above. I hated referring to her as a “plus-size model” but in today’s world, that is what she is considered to be. Despite my agreement I do feel that it is a little silly to suggest that all models should just be referred to as a “a model”. There are always going to be different types of models that are used for different purposes and therefore there will be different divisions in which those models belong to. I also feel that the term “plus-size” is offensive simply because the women in which are considered plus-size are only a size 6 and up. The average American woman is a size 12! So, I do agree with Ms. Renn that the term plus-size model should be eliminated; it is simply offensive.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 RTW Collection

Picture 16
Picture 20

Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2010 RTW collection is perfection. The newsboy cap, torn jeans and patchwork are all very key elements in his collection but so is the feminine elegance. Unlike a lot of the Spring 2010 RTW collections, Mr. Lauren offers a male touch to his designs but at the same time allows for the feminine aspect of his design to dominate the look making it very friendly to the female form. His collection is very, very American and I suspect that he took inspiration from the midwest while designing this collection. I did not see one design in which I did not care for, however, below are my favorite designs from Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2010 RTW Collection. Take a look:Picture 54Picture 73Picture 55

Product Reviews

Picture 42

I bought this serum from Organix for $6.99 and as a result, I expected to be displeased with the product. I simply bought the serum due to the description that is on the back of the bottle that reads “trade that static frizz in for a smooth, sleek, shiny look!” which is what every woman wants her hair to look like, right? I also purchased the product because I was impressed by the fact that Organix Shea Butter Liquid Glass Serum includes a blend shea butter, yogurt proteins as well as avocado oils. It is my pleasure to say that this product is one of the best hair serums in which I have ever tried. It smells divine and does not have that silicone feeling to it. The serum adds so much shine and is very, very light so it does not weigh the hair down and if you have very curly hair like my own that is a must. I have also noticed that my hair is less frizzy since I started using this product. I’ve  also noticed that my hair feels softer.

Picture 44

I’ve had acne since I was nine years old. Nothing has helped my skin and I have tried every product out there from Proactiv, Clinique, Clearasil, etc. Well, my friends, at the age of nineteen I have finally discovered Noxzema. This product is incredible and it leaves my skin so refreshed and smooth but it never becomes dry. My blemishes have not been eliminated but they have been reduced. The only problem is that if you use too much of the cream, it leaves a white film on your skin that will have to be scrubbed off. That is my only “complaint” – I recommend this product for anyone who has skin problems.

Mark Fast + London Fashion Week

Do any of you notice something unique about Mark Fast’s collection? Or rather, the models whom are wearing it?Picture 38Picture 39Picture 37Picture 37Picture 40Picture 34

If you haven’t noticed yet, what is unique about Mark Fast’s models is the fact that some of them are plus sized. “A lot of people think it’s not appropriate to use plus-size models, but I met these girls and I loved their charisma. They’re just jewels, you know?” he stated to Style.com. According to his his managing director, Mr. Fast’s show stylist quit due to the fact that Mr. Fast was so keen on using three plus-size models on his runway. One can not help but wonder if this was done to create publicity for Mr. Fast’s collection but while that may be the motive behind what many consider a bold move, I know a lot of people appreciate what he did. All of his models looked absolutely miserable but they must have enjoyed being a part of this.

Marc Jacobs: Memoirs of a Geisha

Mr. Jacobs offered a nice twist to the runway last night by offering a geisha-inspired look to his models. Pastel colors were prevalent in his designs along with looks that requires the person wearing the designs to have miles worth of legs. Despite my excitement about his collection, I am starting to look forward to when Fashion Week ends. I think the recession truly made a lot of designers suffer and there just seems to be something missing from all collections this year. It’s odd… Anyways, below are my favorite looks from Marc Jacobs’s Spring 2010 RTW collection. Take a look:Picture 32Picture 33Picture 24Picture 35

Picture 41

Tony Cohen designs were light and flowing. His colors were bright but subtle and I just feel like he focused a lot on comfort and making his collection wearable. It was absolutely fantastic.

Picture 49

Vera Wang’s Spring 2010 RTW Collection is by far my favorite collection so far. She truly designed the collection with edge and it is a lot of fun. She also used the color black frequently as well as a black model (the first black model that I have seen since Fashion Week began!). I love it.

Christian Siriano for Payless

Christian Siriano is flamboyant but brilliant. Despite his winning Project Runway I have paid absolutely no attention to him. That was until yesterday when I viewed his collection for Payless. I am absolutely in awe. Take a look:Picture 7

Here are my two favorite designs that are currently available on the Payless.com website:

Picture 34

Picture 33

You can purchase the two looks featured above ($49.99 a pair) and more by clicking here.

Picture 14It turns out that not only are Mr. Siriano’s shoe designs incredible, his clothing designs are too. I can only describe his Spring 2010 RTW collection as a dream; The dream. I could not get enough of it and while I have been truly disappointed with a lot of Spring 2010 RTW collections (hello, Erin Wasson) I am glad to say that Christian Siriano did anything but disappoint. Take a look at my favorite pieces from his Spring 2010 RTW collection:

Picture 17

Picture 9Picture 13

Jenni Kayne

I feel as though Jenni Kayne offered much needed femininity to the runway via. her collection. The looks below could look good on a regular sized woman as well as a runway model. She features simple yet elegant pieces and I absolutely love her entire Spring 20100 RTW collection. Take a look:

Picture 29Picture 30

Picture 15

I never thought I would be disappointed by anything in which Alexander Wang designed. Unfortunately his Spring 2010 RTW collection has proved to be such a disappointment. The collection looks like men’s clothing which in itself is. However, Mr. Wang failed to tailor the clothing to look like it was supposed to be on a women’s body. According to style.com, Mr. Wang found inspiration in the sport of football this could be why he featured odd looking sport bra’s and plenty of stripes. I just cringed when I viewed the collection which I do say with regret since I usually truly enjoy Mr. Wang’s collections. Take a look and please do let me know what you think:

Picture 22

Picture 19Picture 20

Picture 9

One thing that I did like about the Alexander Wang show are the pictures from backstage. They’re absolutely fantastic although I am really displeased with the fact that he did not have one single model that was of color. I only noticed one asian model and the rest of them were caucasian (please correct me if I am wrong). For a designer who seems to celebrate diversity, that is disappointing.Picture 6

Picture 28

Erin Wasson’s collection for RVCA was another huge disappointment for me. Like Alexander Wang, a lot of the looks were oversized and unflattering for anybody who is not a size two. The collection reflects Ms. Wasson very well but I don’t believe that it is anything to boast about. Take a look:

Picture 23Picture 27

Copycat

Picture 15

Now the photo above is just borderline embarrassing… I wonder if Ms. Wasson felt as though no one would notice this HUGE, HUGE blunder and complete copy of Zac Posen’s skirt from his S/S 2010 collection?

What do you think? Who are your favorite designers from New York Fashion Week so far?
