Dolce & Gabbana Does Marilyn

Thanks to Molly Sims, these Dolce & Gabbana designs caught my eye and interest.  Take a look:

I am in awe. I absolutely adore the dresses but also the proportioned butterfly-shaped shoulders. I also feel that the hot pink colors mixed with the black and white colors are very powerful. You can view the rest of the Dolce & Gabbana Winter 2010 show here.

Jimmy Choo coming to H&M

H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand for the first time. They’re teaming up with Jimmy Choo for holiday retailing and according to The Guardian , the collection will include footwear, accessories and clothing.  I don’t even want to know how fast that collection is going to sell out but it’s fantastic news, anyways!

Speaking of shoes…

I found some old things in the attic today. My vintage/very beat up Fendi bag and tan leather wedges! They’re so comfortable!

I also found an old H&M vest which was bought when I lived in Europe about 7 years ago. It’s a little boxy but I am sure I’ll use it in my wardrobe this Fall.

May I also suggest that…

You take a listen to The Fray’s cover of Kanye West’s song “Heartless.” This song has always been extremely personal to me and The Fray just increased my love for the song. Just like Mandy Moore’s cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, The Fray’s version allows for one to realize exactly what is being said and sung of within the lyrics. Beautiful. Take a look/listen:

Girl Interrupted

I’m very late but I just viewed the Dsquared² Ready-to-Wear Fall fashion show and I just had to blog about it. Dsquared² are known for their unique designs so it is no surprise that twin-brothers and designers, Dean & Dan of Dsquared²  featured another buzz-worthy accessory in their latest line; The Starbucks cup. The models walked down the runway clutching their starbucks cups and they were featured on the Fall 2009 ready-to-wear runway. It was by far the most talked about accessory of their show mostly because (as the picture below illustrates) it was paired with very sophisticated yet downplayed looks. Here are some photos:

While the Starbucks cup was the most talked about accessory of the show, Dsquared² also managed to incorporate the boyfriend jean, plaid prints, animal prints, metallic prints and retro looks on to their runway along with long, silky gowns that were often paired with casual cropped leather jackets, sunglasses and scarfs. This runway had extremely high-end looks that were downplayed with items that reminded me of Hollywood daywear. I believe that this line is made to appeal to the girl that wants the Hollywood “I’m a celebrity” type of look. I find it to be a fun, youthful look and I truly enjoyed watching the runway. The looks that were featured on the Dsquared² runway are all expected to be huge hits for the fall. Take a peek at some of my favorite ensembles from the Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear Runway:

This line just seems perfect for the girl that is trying to put together a semi-serious outfit while also looking young & carefree, disturbed & interrupted. Like she’s in a rush (hence the to-go cup). It’s great and for the Fall of 2009, I will keep Dsquared² in mind when I go shopping. I love it!

Here are some (fairly expensive) looks inspired by the Dsquare² Runway. Most do own a pair of converse sneakers, a slouchy hobo bag and aviator sunglasses so maybe you already have the key pieces for these looks. Take a peek:

I <3 William Rast

“And, lo, here we are, actually reading articles in fashion magazines about Justin Timberlake’s skilful way with tailoring. One can almost hear the late Christian Dior gently weeping.” – Hadley Freeman.

While Christian Dior might have been truly displeased with the amount of celebrity fashion designers out there today, I simply enjoy them. I watched Saturday Night Live for the first time this weekend. To my surprise, I truly enjoyed the show especially since Justin Timberlake was the host. I have never watched any of the movies in which he has starred in but from watching him on SNL I actually do feel he is a credible, talented actor. I saw that his girlfriend, Jessica Biel was wearing jeans from his line, “William Rast” and I absolutely loved them.  Turns out, co-founder of William Rast, Justin Timberlake designs well too. Take a look:

I don’t really care for the amount of black used in the designs but I’m a fein for leather, studs and fringes. I love it.

I also spotted a jacket (from the photo above) on the William Rast Runway that is extremely similar to the Alexander wang jacket I wrote about a few weeks ago. Take a look:

The neckline of the William Rast jacket is larger than Alexander Wang’s but the detailing such as the zippers and the leather arms are very similar. Which jacket do you prefer?

Erin Wasson is by the way  featured on the William Rast Official Website along with Justin Timberlake – Talk about a Dynamic duo! She makes everything look great… And so does Justin, for that matter. Ah.

Akiko Ogawa

Above is a photo of the designer, Akiko Ogawa, whom designed the boots below – worn by model Chanel Iman. I had never heard of her until today when I saw the boots on Jak & Jil. I was immediately impressed, especially because the wedge gives of the illusion that the heel itself is hollow when really, it’s just covered with a mirror/steel surface. I also really appreciate the point at the toe of the shoe. Take a look:

Like I stated above, I had never heard of Akiko Ogawa until I saw these boots. However, I youtubed her and watched a video from her Spring 2009 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Runway and realized I’m very late in discovering her. The show was in September of 2008! But I was really impressed. Here are some of my favorite looks from that show:

This is my favorite look due to the hat the model is wearing. It reminds me of an oversized, semi-glossy fedora. Ironically enough, the Kentucky Derby is soon (if it hasn’t occured already) and if I were going, I would wear that hat! I also really like the trench coat/ blazer with the leather detailing and strong shoulders. This look is very simple, yet dramatic due to the hat. I love it.
Another look that I liked:

I liked this look due to the flow of the colors. The jacket looks kind of like a beach coverup too which adds to the relaxed look and feel.
One can purchase Akiko’s designs from Neiman Marcus if their wallet allows it :) Mine does not but a girl can still dream… ;)

Yves Saint Laurent

My feet are currently in pain. Besides having 5 blisters, I just spent a solid 8-9 hours in 5 inch Alice + Olivia platforms. I really shouldn’t complain since it is my own fault that they hurt but I just don’t feel normal in flat shoes. Odd, I know. Below is a picture of Yves Saint Laurent’s Tribute Platform Heel. I’ve been in love with this shoe for a long time. Unfortunately, I don’t have $795.00 to waste on shoes. Sigh.

Balmain SS09

When I first viewed the Balmain SS09 runway a few months ago, I really wanted to cover my eyes. I absolutely could not stand the look of the shoulder pads! WHAT were they thinking? A few days after I viewed the runway, I saw Jennifer Connely in a Balmain creation like the the one in the photo below and screeched because the thought of this actually being a trend, was just too much for me to handle!

I ABSOLUTELY hated the look (minus the shoes) .. But I must admit the whole 80′s large shoulder pad look has completely grown on me in the months following it’s debut from Balmain. I absolutely want this look in my closet (hah, not going to happen – on net-a-porter,  a black balmain blazer was sold out and it cost $10,000! so much for a recession?)

Here are my favorite Balmain blazers from the SS09 runway:

If you are like the rest of us and can’t afford a $10,000 blazer and very expensive jeans to go along with it, I recommend these levis jeans from Urban Outfitters:

I haven’t found any blazers that are similar to Balmain’s. However, I really don’t expect to see stores like H&M, Topshop, etc. with any until next year.
