Chanel VS. MAC

Chanel’s new nail color appeared during their recent runway show, along with clogs and singer Lily Allen. The color, called Particulière which means “special” in french looked spectacular alongside the brand’s signature tweeds and clutches. Designed by their makeup director Peter Philips, the new shade has a purple base with gray and brown undertones and should be available come January 2010.

If you can’t wait until January, below is an alternative which is available here from MAC Cosmetics:

Denim details

In the photo below are a pair of jeans in which I purchased earlier today. I felt they looked kind of boring so I headed over to Jo-ann’s Fabrics and bought some lace fabric to add detailing to them. Take a look:

The back pockets aren’t done but this is what one of them looks like so far :) I ran out of black thread.. Ugh!

All you need in order to do this yourself is the following:

- A pair of jeans

- Lace – or any type of fabric you would like. Plaid fabric, for example.

- A needle & thread.

- A scissor to cut the fabric.

Simply cut the fabric in the shape of the back pocket. Use extra needles to pin down the fabric so it will not move. Sew the fabric onto the denim pocket slowly so to ensure accurateness. That is pretty much it! It’s kind of self-explanatory but if any of you have any questions, feel free to contact me :)

Bleached Ambition

I made these shorts today

IMG_2840

They came out yellowish and I suspect that is because they water in my town contains an incredible amount of iron in it (so much so, that when you use the water it is yellow. We therefore only drink bottled water.. Yuck) but I still think they look pretty cool :) They shorts are in the wash right now so hopefully some of the yellow color will fade. If not, oh well.

All you need in order to create this look yourself is the following:

- A pair of shorts or jeans –  Dark denim works best.

- Approximately 100 rubber bands.

- Clorox bleach

- A bucket or tub

Place rubber bands around the denim so it looks something like this:

Then place denim in a bucket or tub of bleach. Let is sit for about 5 minutes depending on how light your want the bleach marks to be. Once five minutes have passed, remove rubber bands from denim and you should see a pattern. Place in the washing machine immediately. That’s it!

Inspired by Alexander Wang

I didn’t know what to wear today and that’s when I realized that I have an oversized denim button-up like the one featured below from Alexander Wang, black Tripp NYC jeans, Vintage Ann Wiberg leather vest and Alice + Olivia platforms. It’s not Wang but it’s close enough.

I just got too hot wearing the leather and denim together so I changed in to this instead:

Update on my House of Holland D.I.Y Project

House of Holland version (far right):

My current version:

The paint unfortunately went through the denim which caused a few errors but I’m sure I can fix them. I have to make the edges of the circles clean and next week, I’m going to create a pattern on the right leg. I don’t know which pattern though. Maybe skulls? Or flowers? Do any of you have any ideas?

Another D.I.Y project…

I got the inspiration from Agyness Deyn’s blazer. That’s when I realized I didn’t have nearly enough amount of studs to re-create hers.

So, my two year old, nylon blazer ended up look like this instead:

I used my new stud machine, a bar of soap (for marking where the stud should be placed) and a ruler. What do you guys think? I don’t know if I’m loving it but I know I’ll wear it anyway :) Also, I apologize – my blazer still has soap marks on it haha I haven’t washed it yet.

Next D.I.Y project will hopefully be re-creating Matthew Williamson’s leather vest below:

D.I.Y Projects

This is what summer break allows for me to do :) My beloved D.I.Y projects!

I created a look inspired from a dress from Stolen Girlfriends Club. It took me about 30 minutes (thanks to dull scissors) to create this look – The gray tunic in which I used was from Evolution and cost $10.99, the safety pins cost $1.00 – Stolen Girlfriends Club’s version cost $162.00!

I haven’t completed the shirt yet. Seeing it on, I decided that I am going to re-adjust some of the safety pins since they’re kind of tugged. I’m just too tired to do it right now.

I also began my House of Holland D.I.Y jeans today.
