I would like to correct myself and say that I do not believe she deserved to be the victim of racism, because no one deserves that and I did word that wrong. What I meant to say is that this person who spoke out against your sister was mad at her and took her anger out on her in the wrong way, but I do truly believe that your sister did something to egg her on. Im sure jealousy did play a part of it and this girl who said those words had nothing else to get back at her with. I am not in fact an adult and was a student at that school when all of this happened. I know the faculty very well, with mr. White being a close family friend and I do know that when he sees that something is wrong he will do is best to correct it. I guess what I am trying to say is that some of what you are claiming to have happened didnt because no one other then you and your sister saw it...if students saw what had happened I am confident they would have done something as well. I believe you should stand up against racism but I do not belive that you should make it seem like every person is out to get you personally. For example an article was written in the school newspaper about race and college admissions (Im pretty sure more was included but I cant remember everything) and you right away said it was racist, when really it was a well researched peice that stated much of the truth, whether good or bad truth, and you tried to get the author and the teacher in charge of the paper in trouble. This shows that maybe you pull the race card too often and this makes people not stand by you and your family when you really are in need (..the boy who cried wolf..).

I think that you are completely wrong and you obviously do not know anything about my family at all. Not only is it a completely fair representation of that school it is also the correct one. The administration let hate crimes occur not once but approximately four times. Everything that happened to my sibling at the high school could have prevented. I would have liked if you included your contact information in this little comment since you "know" my family. I would love to respond to a face or to a direct e-mail address for I firmly believe that you are acting like a coward by remaining anonymous.

How dare you even imply that my sister or the way she acts is a direct cause of racism? My family is not the only one to face hard times but as far as I know, my family is the only one that has faced hard times in that building due to other students actions that will not take these hard times sitting down. I made sure I graduated from that building knowing I had done everything I possibly could to create a better environment. We fought back. My family resourced and brought in government officials and organizations such as ALANA (http://www.alanavision.org) to help prevent anything like this from happening again. We did that. The school did not and even with every single tool provided for them, they still did absolutely nothing with them. Most people, such as yourself, would prefer if we just shut up and "dealt" with it. I refuse to do so and I can't believe that you have had the nerve to write this filth as a response.

Since you have seen kids go through hard times, I will just assume that you are an adult. Well it is adults like you who gave me the drive to write the article for Kind Magazine to begin with. For it is adults such as yourself who told me to shut up and put up. Those high school students who protested against racism in Keswick High School in Canada (which was also mentioned in my article) did the right thing. No adult organized that event, as far as I know. It is sad that you are the type of adult young adults such as myself are encouraged to model after and look up to. It is easier to sweep things under the rug and pretend that they do not happen - well I refuse to do that.

Being called a nigger, being called a dirty black girl and being harassed - violently and verbally - is NOT a small thing and it sadness me that you would even find the need to suggest that. No one deserves to be treated that way REGARDLESS of what their actions were. You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting that.

You don't know my family and I hope the next time you decide to comment on any of my writing, that you do so in a proud, non-cowardly manner so I can contact you directly.

Until then, I suggest you review ALANA's website and provide yourself with some educational resources regarding racism, bigotry and school systems.

If you have any further questions, comments or concerns I will be more than glad to address them.

Thank you for your time.

I know the Chadbournes and I know that this was not the first school district in which they had a problem which leads me to believe they are taking small things (not that racism is small) and turning them into something bigger. I was in Springfield high school when everything with Kaitlyn's sister happened and I truly believed someone had a problem with her not for her race but for other problems, possibly her attitude...I do not believe her race should have been held against (although no one actually saw what was written in the bathroom...) her but it was and I am truly sorry about that because that is a poor representation of the high school. However in your sorry you make it sound like you and your sister are the only people to face hard times which I am sorry but that is far from the truth. It is wrong to hold someones race against them but things such as wealth or lack thereof, how they dress, who their parents are, are all reason kids are "picked" on for, and I have heard some of the things that are said to these kids and go through some of the same things as your sister, sometimes worse. I do feel what happend to her was wrong but I think you have to look at what she did to start the whole thing, I just think you add some details to this story that never happened.

Alright BRIT,

I don't know who you are to judge people like that? Do you even know the Chadbournes? Well I can tell you this right now, THEY ARE NOT LIARS. And no one deserves to be treated like that because of their race. Kirsten is a great person, she may get temperamental but it's because of ignorant people like YOU! I can't believe you would question a matter like that? It's called racism. And after reading your little comment it makes me think that you were apart of the little mishap. It's really rude for you to say something like that about another person, I'm guessing your white so you would never know the feeling of someone hating you only because of the color of your skin? Do you know how that feels? Because i can tell you, I'm shore you don't and you never will. Kaitee is a good person as well as Kirsten is too. Who ever wrote all that stuff about her and did all that bullshit to her property in my eyes was jealous. The whole thing was done out of jealousy. And it's pretty shameful on your part to talk down about someone who's just writing down some events that she lived through. You know that family has gone through hell in the past year and they don't need any of your bullshit to add on to it.

Sorry if I offended you in any way, but that's just how I see it.

          Sincerely; Cody.

I am truly sorry that you feel that way.
Maybe you should tell the State of Vermont or the Department of Human Rights how you feel while you are at it for they agreed with me and my family too following a lengthy investigation.

Your opinion is that my memory is incorrect. However, I am pretty certain that it was not your younger siblings name scribbled all over the bathroom wall followed by the terms "Nigger" and "Kiki has a gun in her locker." I am certain that you did not have to go to court to defend the actions of your younger sibling due to the inadequate actions of your school administration either. I am also certain that you have not gone a full school year dreading having to get up every morning and struggling through all of your classes because all you can think of is what is happening to your family. I am sure you've never gone to your car that was parked in the school parking lot only to realize that someone tied a used condom to your windshield wipers and slashed your tires. I am sure that you never once had to fear driving because just a few hours ago someone raced in front of you and slammed on their breaks and tried to cause you to crash. I am sure you never had to fear walking in the hallway or opening your locker because of the hatred that you felt was geared towards you. I am sure that you never bowed your head in shame or disgust and I am most certain that you will never in a million years know what it feels like to be called a nigger or any other racial slur.

If you doubt me anymore, I ask that you contact a Mr. Larry Wight - Springfield High School's Principal- and ask him about this matter. He has all the paperwork and all of the documentation to prove that what I said in this article was true.

I don't know who you are but my documentation is not only portrayed nicely considering what we went through, it is portrayed correctly.

I thank you for your time. I apologize that you have been misinformed.
